A “Fresh Hope” Mental Health Care Summit for Pastors will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at First Church of Christ, Atlantic, Iowa. Dr. Ron Wymer of Wildewood Christian Church in Papillion, Neb., will be keynote speaker. Roundtable discussions on such topics as discouragement, anxiety, and depression will take place. Three years after buying a closed supermarket property on the north side of Indianapolis, Traders Point Christian Church announced plans for a multipurpose development there that will include the church’s Midtown Campus, a financial institution, a substation for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and other future tenants, according to an article at wishtv.com.
“We’re deeply committed to being a part of the restoration of this property and opening its doors to be a blessing to those who live, work, and play in that part of our city,” said Josh Lippert, chief financial officer of TPCC.
The CCL Center in Florence, Ky., will host a “Lunch & Learn” gathering from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Sept. 14 on “The Role of Women in the Church: A Look at Our Past and a Guide for Our Present.” Guest speaker will be Johnny Pressley, senior minister with First Church of Christ, Washington, N.C., and former professor of theology with Cincinnati Christian University. A Cincinnati TV news station did a story in late July about the transformation of the former Cincinnati Christian University property into a charter school known as IDEA Price Hill. The K-12, tuition-free, public charter school was set to open in August, along with a second IDEA school in a northern suburb, WLWT.com reported. We wrote about IDEA Public Schools’ plans for the campus in April 2021. CCU closed at the end of 2019.
Fortville (Ind.) Christian Church’s “Harvest of Talents” event—a fundraiser for International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES)—is scheduled for Saturday, the Daily Reporter shared in a preview story for the event. People donate their talents—such as woodworking, sewing, painting or baking—to produce items that are sold in an arts and crafts sale or bid on in silent or live auctions. Each year, several churches host their own events and donate the proceeds to IDES. In 2020, a combined $188,228 was raised for the ministry.
University of Kentucky football linebacker Jacquez Jones and a 6-year-old boy named TJ have developed a bond that started when the Wildcats delivered Thanksgiving food baskets to families around Lexington through a partnership with Southland Christian Church, the Courier Journal reported.
